ROY LONEY of the Flamin' Groovies with PURPLE KNIF and more at PJ's Lager House

doors at 9PM
tickets: $10

The Crofoot is honored to present ROY LONEY of the Flamin' Groovies at PJ's Lager House. The voice behind such hits as "Slow Death," "Teenage Head," and "Heading for the Texas Border"! Singer/guitarist Roy Loney, who was the frontman for the Flamin Groovies during that band's original garage/rockabilly/R&B-inspired incarnation, continues in a similar vein in his solo career, rock'n'rolling with the devotion of a true believer. Since leaving the Groovies in 1975, Loney has maintained the rootsy spirit he had brought to the band, emphasizing raw, unpretentious American grit immune to the whims of popular taste.

Starting out in San Francisco in 1965, the Flamin' Groovies always defied the status quo, doing things their own way and inspiring other bands to do the same. The band personified the defiance that inspired punk rock, but never turned their backs on the roots of their sound in American music from the 50s and Brit-pop in the 60s. As one of the creative engines behind the original Groovies line-up, Loney took the concept of greasy, good-time, high energy rock & roll to its face-melting limits, and created a template for countless underground American bands in the process.

With PURPLE KNIF (Chris Butler from Tin Huey/The Waitresses) and more.

This show is at PJ's LAGER HOUSE, 1254 Michigan Avenue, Detroit. Three blocks east of Michigan and Trumbull and two blocks West of MGM Grand. 21 and up.
