COCOROSIE at the Crofoot Ballroom

Since 2003, sisters Bianca “Coco” and Sierra “Rosie” Casady have allowed listeners to glimpse into their mystical, fairy tale world created through elaborate costumes and sets, Bianca’s hip-hop influenced childlike tremor and Sierra’s classically trained operatic voice, often using vintage, non-traditional and toy instruments, recording in unorthodox settings such as in their apartment bathroom, barns in the south of France and other exotic locations along their nomadic travels.

In 2012, CocoRosie had a busy year in which they curated and co-produced a series called “The CocoRosie Project” for the Donau Festival in Austria, creating the musical “popera” (Soul Life) and choreographing and staging their first dance program (Nightshift). They spent the summer collaborating and touring with folk ensemble Rajasthan Roots from India, and participated in Antony Hegarty’s Meltdown Festival to standing ovations at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

This coming year also promises to be a fruitful one for CocoRosie when in April a new production of Peter Pan in collaboration with renowned avant garde theater director Robert Wilson and the Berliner Ensemble will premiere.

CocoRosie are currently in the studio recording music for their 5th studio album to be released in spring followed by a world tour. They have previously released three albums on Touch & Go and their latest, 2010′s Grey Oceans on SubPop Records. CocoRosie’s most recent single, “We Are On Fire,” was produced by TV On The Radio’s Dive Sitek, and saw a music video release in June 2012.

With Bianca’s background as a visual artist and Sierra’s classical conservatory training, CocoRosie are always seeking opportunities for cross-collaboration and to broaden their explorations into the disciplines of theater, dance and multimedia arts.
