At the ages of 16, 17, and 18, Luke Mucus & The Phlegm started playing in 1978 at Detroit area punk clubs Bookie’s, Lili’s, and The New (Old) Miami. Combining the punk rantings and outrageousness of The Sex Pistols/Iggy & The Stooges with over-the- top showmanship a la’ Alice Cooper, and the smart aleck social and puerile commentary of Frank Zappa, LMP brought a different head to the local punk party that was booming throughout Detroit. LMP played with local faves like The Mutants, The Sillies, The Cubes, and The Plugz (later Rhythm Corps). Early songs included tongue-in-cheek gems like: “So What?!,” “Do Something Gross,” “Chain Me! Whip Me!,” “Mother Is A Trucker,” and the classic “I Wanna Sniff Your Bicycle Seat After A Twenty Mile Ride.” LMP caught the new wave bug and morphed into Luke Warm in 1980. LW continued to play the punk circuit as well as college clubs in E. Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Ypsilanti. With CIRCUS BOY (with members of The Cubes, The Sillies, Coldcock, Bootsy X, and Flirt).
