Aurally, THE MOST SERENE REPUBLIC are a lush, spacey hybrid of the Postal Service and the Broken Social Scene, and all the hype they've been getting because of their connection with the latter (Most Serene Republic and BSS are on the same label, Canada's Arts & Crafts) is more than warranted. Frontman Adrian Jewett commands attention with his uncultivated stage antics, throwing his legs up in the air and backpedaling his way through the band's songs. And his undying energy is vivid, soaking through the rest of his bandmates' sincere playfulness on tunes such as "Why So Looking Back" and "Sherry and Her Butterfly Net." A mix of Emma Ditchburn's lilting, ethereal vocals and Jewett's high-pitched offerings, joined with the striking versatility of the instrumentals bestowed upon the sea of tranquil smiles and certainly leaves a literal feeling of inclusion in a Most Serene Republic.

With STILL LIFE STILL and more.
